Academy vs Select
Program Comparison

Aledo Soccer Club offers two youth development programs – Academy and Select – tailored to different age groups and competition levels. The Academy program is designed for younger players (U7–U10) and focuses on fundamental skill development in a fun, learning-oriented environment. The Select program is for older youth (U11–U14) and features more intensive training with competitive league play.

Both programs involve a similar weekly time commitment, but they differ in training intensity, competition level, and fees. The comparison table below provides a quick overview to help parents understand the key differences:

Academy (U7–U10)

Age Group

U7–U10 (typically ages 6–10)

Training Focus

Emphasizes foundational skills and basic techniques in a fun setting.

Coaching centers on building fundamentals (dribbling, passing, teamwork) and love of the game.

Competition Level

Plays in local developmental leagues, with focus on learning and gradual competition. Games are aimed at experience and enjoyment as players build confidence.

Time Commitment

Similar weekly schedule to Select: e.g., ~2 practice sessions per week plus weekend games. The program is designed to fit a young player’s routine and endurance.

Program Fees

Lower fees – Academy is more affordable, with a lower cost structure for entry-level play.

Select (U11–U14)

Age Group

U11–U14 (typically ages 10–14)

Training Focus

Offers higher-intensity training with advanced skills development.

Coaching includes advanced techniques and tactical understanding to prepare for competitive play.

Competition Level

Competes in higher-level competitive leagues against other select teams. Matches involve stronger competition, and players experience a more competitive game environment.

Time Commitment

Similar weekly schedule to Academy: e.g., ~2 practices per week plus weekend games. Expect occasional additional events (such as tournaments) as part of the competitive experience.

Program Fees

Higher fees – Select has higher costs, reflecting the advanced training, league registration, and resources for competitive play.

This side-by-side comparison is intended to help families choose the right fit for their child. Academy provides a nurturing start for newcomers and younger players to learn the game, while Select offers a challenging step up for older players ready for more competition. Both programs share the club’s commitment to player development and sportsmanship, ensuring a positive soccer experience at every level.
